Ian Gee Profile
After gaining an honours degree in Business Law, Ian Gee joined Jobling & Knape and qualified in 1979. Jobling & Knape was established by his grandfather John Knape senior, in which his two uncles, John junior and Stuart, were also Partners.
Ian is now a Director at the firm and Head of the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Department, with responsibility for the firm's Compliance and he is Lexcel Senior Responsible Officer. He is recommended for his aviation practice in the Legal 500.
He has achieved multi-million pound compensation for clients in Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence, together with maximum awards from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. For 13 years, he has been a member of Headway - the brain injury association Personal Injury Solicitors List.
He acts as a professional Deputy, looking after the affairs of those who have lost the capacity to do so.
Ian conducted what is thought to be the first Personal Injury claim against the Secretary of State for Defence, following removal of the prohibition against claims by a member of the armed forces for injury caused by another member of the armed forces, arising out of a helicopter crash.
Ian also acted in what is thought to be the only decided and successful court case against a Bank arising out of an interest rate swap agreement.
He has conducted cases involving injuries to and by horses, cows, escape of animals onto the highway, contract disputes and represented a client in proceedings following an allegation of breach of regulations at a show when damages, costs and an apology were achieved.
Outside work, Ian's second passion is aviation and he holds a Commercial Pilot's Licence and a seaplane rating. He has flown extensively throughout Europe and beyond.
Ian is also involved in a charity, whose objects include building a replica of an aeroplane which flew from Windermere 100 years ago and establishing a heritage centre.
